Her research focuses on music in contemporary South Asia and its diaspora, examining intersections of sound, listening practices, and power structures such as gender and class. She synthesizes ethnomusicology, music analysis, and affect/emotion theories. Previously, she held a Research Fellowship at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and contributed to the Leverhulme-funded 'Migrant Memory and the Postcolonial Imagination' project. She is currently working on a monograph about the North Indian semi-classical genre thumri, combining ethnography and analysis.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those addressing cultural preservation and social equity. Key research areas include North Indian classical music, diasporic musical practices, and the role of embodied listening in constructing social hierarchies.
Her publications span journals like Ethnomusicology and Analytical Approaches to World Music, with a focus on themes such as connoisseurship, gender performativity, and improvised music structures. She leads the 'Musical Lives' project exploring familial musical traditions and radio engagement.
