Chin-Hsing Kuo is a Senior Lecturer and Academic Program Director of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wollongong, Australia. Previously, he held positions as Associate and Assistant Professor at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from King’s College London in 2011. His research focuses on optimizing mechanical energy interactions in mechanisms and robotic systems, emphasizing static balancing and magnet-enabled innovations. He currently leads the ASME Mechanisms and Robotics Committee and chairs the IFToMM Technical Committee for Linkages and Mechanical Controls.
Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, King’s College London (2011). Prior roles include visiting scholar positions at Delft University of Technology and the University of Minnesota. He holds prestigious awards such as the Ta-You Wu Memorial Award and the Freudenstein/General Motors Young Investigator Award.
Research Interests: Mechanism design, robotics, biomedical engineering, energy systems, and assistive technologies. Notable projects include gravity compensation for robotic arms and magnetic systems for static balancing. His work bridges theoretical and applied engineering, with applications in medical devices and sustainable manufacturing.
Leadership: Served as Conference Chair for the 2021 ASME Mechanisms and Robotics Conference and General Chair for the 2019 ISRM. Editorships include ASME Journal of Mechanisms and Robotics and Mechanism and Machine Theory. Active in professional societies like ASME and IFToMM.
Teaching: Courses in mechanical design, mechanism theory, and robotics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Current supervision of Ph.D. students on topics like adaptive magnetic gravity compensation and sustainable architecture strategies.
Awards and Fellowships: ASME Fellow (2024), JSPS International Research Fellow (2023), and multiple industry-academia collaboration awards. His contributions span international conferences and editorial roles, advancing mechanism and machine science globally.
