Dr. Chin-Feng Hwang is a Professor at Missouri State University's School of Agricultural Sciences and Conservation, part of the William H. Darr College of Agriculture. He holds the Plant Genetics Endowed Professorship (2016–Present). His research focuses on molecular genetic tools to improve the viticultural performance and enological quality of Norton grapes, a Vitis aestivalis-derived variety. Key activities include plant-pathogen interactions, classical breeding, and map-based cloning of disease resistance genes.
Education: PhD in 1997 from the University of Iowa.
Research Interests: Accelerating grape breeding through molecular markers, marker-assisted selection, and improving disease resistance. His work bridges plant genetics, viticulture, and enology.
Awards: Recipient of the 2019 Foundation Award for Excellence in Research, 2016 Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award, and the 2013 Best Enology Paper Award. He also convened the 2019 North American Grape Breeders Conference.
Teaching: Courses include Plant Breeding and Genetics, Molecular Breeding Techniques, and Plant Science Colloquium. He oversees the Plant Breeding and Genetics Lab.
