Dr. Chiara Orsini is a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Sheffield's School of Economics and a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics (LSE) Department of Social Policy. She also holds affiliations with the Ageing and Health Incentive Lab (AHIL) at LSE and is an IZA Research Fellow since 2024. Her academic background includes a PhD and MA in Economics from the University of Maryland, an MSc in Management from Lancaster University, and a BA from the University of Venice.
Her research focuses on Applied Microeconometrics, with emphasis on labor, health, and public economics. Key interests include health inequality, economic crises' impact on health outcomes, mental health determinants, aging, gender disparities in work behavior, and climate change effects on health. Methodologically, she employs quasi-experimental and experimental approaches.
Notable publications examine topics such as Medicare funding effects on mortality, economic crises' influence on fertility and birth outcomes, and autism incidence linked to parental skills. Her work bridges academic research with policy, including contributions to Public Health England reports on children’s wellbeing.
