Georgia Verropoulou is a Professor in the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science at the University of Piraeus, and currently serves as Vice-Rector for International Relations and External Relations. She holds a Ph.D. in Demography (1998, London School of Economics), an M.Sc. in Demography (1991, LSE), and a Mathematics Diploma (1989, University of Crete). Her research focuses on demographic transitions, migration impacts, health disparities, and socioeconomic determinants of health outcomes. Key areas include fertility patterns, mortality rates, aging populations, and the interplay between economic crises and health. She has published extensively on topics such as maternal health among immigrant populations, the effects of childhood adversity on depression, and cross-national comparisons of welfare systems. Her work bridges demographic analysis with public health policy, emphasizing the role of socioeconomic factors in shaping population dynamics. She is actively engaged in university administration, contributing to international collaboration and institutional strategy.
Her academic career includes teaching and research in Greece and abroad, with a focus on applying statistical methods to demographic challenges. She has explored topics such as self-rated age, subjective survival probabilities, and the demographic consequences of crises, offering insights into health inequality and aging populations.
