Dr. Chiara Calastri is an Associate Professor at the University of Leeds' Institute for Transport Studies (Faculty of Environment). She holds a PhD in Transport Studies from Leeds, an MSc in Economics (Distinction) from Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, and a BSc in Economics from the University of Pisa. Her core research focuses on advancing choice modelling methodologies to understand travel behavior complexities, including multi-tasking during travel, social interactions, time allocation, and mode choices. She extends these frameworks to health and ecology domains.
As Co-Lead of the Choice Modelling Research Group and Deputy Director of Postgraduate Studies, she oversees PhD supervision and teaches Transport Data Analysis. She directs projects including:
- INFUZE (Zero Carbon Mobility)
- National Railway Accessibility Strategy
- Post-COVID rail passenger recovery
Her contributions earned the Eric Pas Dissertation Award for doctoral research on travel decision-making. Current PhD students investigate rail access dynamics, electric bus adoption in Lagos, and longitudinal travel behavior.
