Chetan Chitnis is a leading researcher and Structure Manager of the Biology of Plasmodium and Vaccines team at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, France. His work centers on malaria pathogenesis, focusing on the molecular biology of Plasmodium parasites, host-pathogen interactions, and the development of novel antimalarial therapies and vaccines. He serves as Principal Investigator (PI) for active research projects such as BPV (2023-018), which aims to identify new drug candidates and antibodies against malaria.
His research interests are deeply rooted in parasitology, microbiology, immunology, and vaccinology. Dr. Chitnis is actively involved in public health education, contributing to major initiatives like the Malaria MOOC and the Pasteur Course in Vaccinology, a comprehensive four-week program covering vaccine development and delivery.
The most recent publications associated with his team and collaborators span diverse areas including vaccinology, cell biology, drug discovery, neurology, and materials science, reflecting a broad interdisciplinary network. The research trends indicate a strong emphasis on infectious disease control, molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis, and the development of novel therapeutic and diagnostic strategies.
Dr. Chitnis mentors a dynamic team of researchers, including PhD students and postdoctoral fellows, fostering the next generation of scientists in the field of infectious diseases.
He is based at the Sergent Building on the Institut Pasteur campus, and his work is integral to the institute's historic mission of combating emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
