Her work spans neonatal disease in beef calves, prevention and control of infectious diseases (BVDV, bovine genital campylobacteriosis, trichomoniasis, neospora), and the effects of vaccination and nutrition on reproductive performance. She applies innovative tools including advanced Bayesian statistical models, spatial statistical modeling, and agent-based simulation to address One Health questions.
Dr. Waldner has received numerous prestigious awards including the University of Saskatchewan Distinguished Researcher Award (2023), election as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (2021), and the Provost's Award for Outstanding Graduate Teaching (2015).
As a mentor, Dr. Waldner has supervised 15 PhD students (10 defended, 5 in progress), 7 MSc students (5 defended, 2 in progress), and 4 postdoctoral fellows (3 complete, 1 in progress). Her research has been supported by over $35.9 million in grants, with her serving as principal investigator for more than $19.3 million.
Dr. Waldner and her husband own and operate a small commercial cow-calf herd west of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, providing practical insight into the production systems she studies.
