معرفی
Cherie Briggs is a Professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), holding a joint appointment in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology (EEMB) and the Department of Bioengineering and Marine Sciences and Engineering (BMSE). She is the Mellichamp Chair in Systems Biology. Previously, she served on the faculty at UC Berkeley (1997–2007) and conducted postdoctoral research at Imperial College, Silwood Park. Her research focuses on disease-host interactions and population dynamics, combining theoretical models with field and lab experiments.
Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Biological Sciences (Michigan Technological University), M.S. in Electrical Engineering (Princeton University, Bell Labs), and Ph.D. in Biology (UCSB). Her postdoctoral work developed models of insect-pathogen interactions.
Research interests include understanding disease impacts on animal populations, such as the chytrid fungus affecting mountain yellow-legged frogs and Lyme disease dynamics in Southern California. Current projects involve field surveys, genetics, molecular techniques, and modeling to explain pathogen persistence and prevalence.
Grants and advising: Students Kacie Ring, Imani, and Caitlin have received RIBBiTR Pilot & Exploratory Project grants. The Briggs Lab collaborates on interdisciplinary studies at the interface of ecology and systems biology.
Labs/Teams: Briggs Lab at UCSB, with active participation in the EEMB research community.
