Cheri L. Marmarosh is an Associate Professor in the Professional Psychology Program at George Washington University’s Columbian College of Arts & Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University (1995) and has been licensed in DC for over 25 years, specializing in clinical psychology with expertise in group and individual psychotherapy. Her research focuses on attachment theory, group dynamics, and the impact of mental representations on psychotherapy outcomes. She has authored over 40 articles, two books, and edited volumes, including Attachment in Group Psychotherapy. Dr. Marmarosh’s editorial roles include serving as Associate Editor for Psychotherapy and Group Dynamics: Theory, Research, and Practice.
- Education: B.S., University of Florida (1990); Ph.D., Virginia Commonwealth University (1995); Advanced training at Washington School of Psychiatry and Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy.
- Research Interests: Internalized racism in therapy, adult attachment, group psychotherapy, and patient transfers in training clinics.
Her lab, the Marmarosh Lab, investigates how early relational experiences shape therapeutic relationships and treatment outcomes. She currently serves as president-elect of APA Division 49 (Group Psychology) and chairs AGPA’s Research Special Interest Group. Her clinical practice is part-time, specializing in adults and couples.
