Dr. Chembea Suleiman Athuman is a Professor of Religion at Bomet University College, Kenya, where he also heads the Department of Arts, Governance and Communication Studies. He holds a PhD in Islamic Studies from the University of Bayreuth, Germany. His research focuses on Islamic knowledge production, religious economy, Muslim-Christian relations, and countering extremism through cultural practices like qaṣīdah poetry and nashīd hymns.

- Affiliations: DAAD Alumnus, Visiting Research Fellow at Leiden University (2019), Early Career Researcher at ISITA, Northwestern University (2019–present).
His work examines how media and artistic performances reshape Islamic knowledge dissemination in East Africa, particularly in Zanzibar. Current projects explore women’s agency through qaṣīdah poetry and the role of media in countering extremist narratives.
