Dilyana Mincheva

Dr. Dilyana Mincheva is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies and Multimedia at McMaster University, specializing in the intersection of Islamic feminism, media studies, and political communication. Her research explores religious iconoclasm, the politics of image in cinematic terrorism and utopia, and the dynamics of the Western-Islamic public sphere.

Her work focuses on Islamic feminism and its manifestation in digital activism, including the #MosqueMeToo and #DearSister movements. She also investigates representations of Islam in popular culture, such as superhero narratives, and analyzes Islamophobic discourse in media and public policy contexts.

Dr. Mincheva has been recognized with two international research excellence awards (2012, 2015) by the Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Society. Her 2016 monograph, The Politics of Western Muslim Intellectual Discourse in the West, remains a seminal contribution to the field.

She has taught courses on Islam, Feminisms and Global Media, World Cinemas, Media and Promotionalism, and Television and Society since 2017. Her publications span topics such as gender dynamics in Iranian cinema, digital feminist movements, and critical Islam in media discourse.
