Chelseá R. Mitchell

Chelseá R. Mitchell is an Associate Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Criminal Practice Clinic at the University of Missouri School of Law. She previously directed the Mizzou Law Innocence Clinic and served as a supervising attorney with the Midwest Innocence Project, focusing on post-conviction and appellate representation.

Her practice specializes in criminal defense, appellate litigation, and advocacy for individuals facing capital punishment, involuntary commitment, or juvenile justice system involvement. She has extensive experience in both trial and appellate courts.

Professor Mitchell received the David J. Dixon Appellate Advocacy Award in 2019 and is a member of The Order of Barristers. She transitioned from Missouri State Public Defender System capital trial work to academia, establishing clinical programs rooted in real-world legal practice.
