Elizabeth Cateforis is a Clinical Professor of Law and Supervising Attorney at the University of Kansas School of Law's Paul E. Wilson Project for Innocence & Post-Conviction Remedies, established in 1999. She previously served as an Assistant Appellate Defender at the Kansas Appellate Defender Office from 1994 to 1999. Holding degrees from Smith College (BA, 1985) and the University of Kansas School of Law (JD, 1994), her research focuses on constitutional rights (4th, 5th, 6th Amendments), death penalty reform, post-conviction remedies, and criminal defense strategies.
She teaches Advanced Criminal Procedure, Capital Punishment, and oversees the Project for Innocence clinical program. Notable awards include the 2022 KACDL Champion of Justice Award and 2016 Sean O'Brien Freedom Award for her work in exonerating Floyd Bledsoe. Active in professional development, she frequently presents at conferences on criminal law updates and culturally competent client communication.
