Charmaine Chandler is an Associate Professor and Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at the University of East Anglia (UEA), serving as Senior Adviser for pre-registration learners in the School of Health Sciences since 2021. She joined UEA in 2015 as an associate tutor, transitioning to a full-time Lecturer role in 2016. A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she teaches across BSc, MSc, and Degree Apprenticeship programs in Occupational Therapy.
Her academic background includes a First Class Honours BSc in Occupational Therapy (UEA), an MSc in Clinical Research (Distinction), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice, all from UEA. Clinically, she specialized in adult neurological conditions and learning disabilities, with roles as a Senior Occupational Therapist in NHS trusts, including the Colman Centre and Norfolk Community Health & Care NHS Trust.
Charmaine’s research focuses on healthcare education equity, particularly challenges faced by learners with disabilities and part-time workers. Her 2023 article in Journal of Teaching and Learning for Graduate Employability highlights this work. She has led the RECIPE project (2020–2021), funded by the Elizabeth Casson Trust, evaluating community-based rehabilitation programs.
Her professional network includes participation in global conferences (e.g., World Federation of Occupational Therapists Congress, Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists) and membership in the International Collaboration of Occupational Therapy Education. She balances clinical expertise with academic leadership, advocating for inclusive healthcare education and practice.
