Charlotte Lennox is a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Psychology & Mental Health at the University of Manchester. She is actively involved in the MSc Forensic Psychology & Mental Health program, overseeing teaching, student supervision, and administrative duties. Her research focuses on improving health outcomes for individuals in the Criminal Justice System (CJS), particularly children and young people, through the development and evaluation of interventions using mixed-method approaches. She has pioneered the Comprehensive Health Assessment Tool (CHAT), now standardized across English secure estates to assess youth health needs. Key areas include violence risk, psychopathy, neurodevelopmental disorders, and realist evaluation methodologies.
Dr Lennox has led or collaborated on projects such as the 'Empowered Together' coordinated social care trial and the 'PROSPECT' suicide prevention initiative. She supervises PhD/MSc students and chairs the Health and Justice Research Network. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being (SDG 3) and reduced inequalities (SDG 10).
Notable publications (2024) include studies on suicide prevention in prisons, cost-effectiveness of mental health interventions, and the impact of the pandemic on incarcerated children. Projects span feasibility studies on dementia care in prisons and evaluations of liaison/diversion services for youth. She holds a PhD in Psychiatry (2009) and is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society.
