Carol du Plessis

Dr. Carol du Plessis is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology and Wellbeing at the University of Southern Queensland. She holds affiliations with the Centre for Health Research and the Institute for Resilient Regions. Her research focuses on suicide prevention, transgender incarceration experiences, mental health recovery, and online crisis intervention. She completed her PhD in 2015 at the University of Johannesburg.

Her work explores gender minority stress, resilience among incarcerated trans women, and the impact of correctional policies. Notable projects include studies on suicide capability frameworks, digital health interventions for youth, and psychobiographical analyses of social activists. Her supervision spans doctoral research on suicide interventions, gender identity, and family law reforms.

Publications highlight her expertise in trans incarceration challenges, mental health moderation practices, and systemic recovery models. She collaborates globally on issues like prison housing preferences and victimization patterns among gender-diverse populations.
