London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)معرفی
Dr. Charlotte Hawkins is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Anthropology at LSE, contributing to the Periscope Project and the LSE Commission on Pandemic Governance and Inequality. Her research focuses on the social economies of mental health, ageing in urban contexts, and inequalities in healthcare access, particularly in Uganda and the UK. She employs ethnographic methods to explore intergenerational care roles, digital care practices, and the impact of global health crises on social policies.
Her doctoral work examined ageing in Kampala, analyzing how older adults navigate digital technologies, urbanization, and care networks. Current projects include pilot research on the political economy of care in Hackney, London, and advocating for socially just health policies through collaborative anthropology. Hawkins critiques austerity-driven care systems and emphasizes equitable pandemic preparedness through multi-level governance frameworks.
Her academic contributions span medical anthropology, critical global health, and applied research. She collaborates with Professor Laura Bear on pandemic governance studies and engages with community organizations to inform policy on care work and health inequities.
