Charles Musiba is Professor of Evolutionary Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Colorado Denver's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on human origins in Tanzania and South Africa, with fieldwork centered on Laetoli and Olduvai Gorge paleoanthropological sites in northern Tanzania.
His research interests span paleoanthropology, taphonomy, and paleoecology, specifically examining hominin behavior ecology, conservation of animal trackways, and the evolution of the genus Homo. Musiba integrates multiple data sources including fossil faunal remains, stable isotopes, pollen remains, and animal prints to reconstruct ancient landscapes and their relationship to human evolution.
His recent publications demonstrate strong focus on hominin footprint analysis, Homo naledi research, and Tanzanian heritage conservation. Key trends include methodological innovations in trackway documentation, interdisciplinary approaches to paleoenvironmental reconstruction, and community-based conservation models for African heritage sites.
Musiba actively teaches courses including ANTH 1000: Anthropology - Past and Present, ANTH 1303: Introduction to Biological Anthropology, and ANTH 4995/5995: Tanzania Field School in Anthropology which combines research and field-based teaching at Laetoli.
