Dr. Charles Day is a Lecturer in Computing at Keele University's School of Computer Science and Mathematics. He serves as the Third Year Tutor for Computing and oversees careers liaison activities. His academic journey includes a physics and computer science background, industry experience in IT, and advanced degrees (MSc, PhD in neural networks). He has held post-doctoral roles at the EC Joint Research Centre and Keele’s MacKay Institute.
Dr. Day’s research focuses on computational modeling of human perception (vision/audition), data mining of large datasets (astrophysics, built environment), and intelligent decision support for healthcare professionals. Notable projects include EPSRC-funded work on X-ray signature analysis for chemical element identification.
His teaching responsibilities include modules like Natural Computation and Computational Intelligence II. His publications span neural network applications in structural health monitoring, forensic entomology, and medical imaging enhancement. He actively collaborates on interdisciplinary projects involving clinicians, engineers, and data scientists.
Lab/Team Affiliations: His work intersects with the MacKay Institute for Communication & Neuroscience and collaborates with NHS clinicians on decision support systems. His research also engages with civil engineering structural monitoring initiatives.
