Charles D. Mitchell is an Associate Professor at the School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), where he has been teaching since 2010. He previously served as associate dean and brings extensive professional experience from 24 years as executive editor of The Vicksburg Post.

His research and teaching focus on critical legal and ethical dimensions of journalism, particularly First Amendment rights, intellectual property, and opinion writing. With a career spanning both law and media, he provides students with a unique interdisciplinary perspective.
Mitchell is a nationally recognized writer, having contributed columns to over 20 state newspapers for more than three decades. His work has earned numerous awards for excellence in journalism, especially for his reporting from Iraq and coverage following Hurricane Katrina.
