Charles Chavis is an Assistant Professor of Conflict Analysis and Resolution and History at George Mason University’s Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution. He serves as Director of African and African American Studies and Founding Director of the John Mitchell, Jr. Program for History, Justice, and Race. His research focuses on racial violence, civil rights, Black-Jewish relations, and truth/racial healing frameworks.
He has received over 25 grants/fellowships from organizations like the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the National Park Service. His policy work includes leadership in the U.S. Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Movement and Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

- Publications: Author of The Silent Shore (2022) and editor of For the Sake of Peace (2020)
