Charles Boyer is a Professor and Chair of the Liberal Arts Division at Montserrat, where he has taught since 1988. He specializes in creative writing, poetry, and narrative techniques, emphasizing students' unique voices in writing classes. His novel History’s Child won the AWP Novel Award (2014) and was published in 2016. His poetry chapbook The Mockingbird Puzzle is published by Finishing Line Press.
Education: B.A., Beloit College; M.A., University of New Hampshire. Previously taught at the University of New Hampshire and Northeastern University, and led Montserrat’s summer Journal Writing Seminar in Viterbo, Italy since 1998.
Research interests focus on creative writing pedagogy, literary fiction, and poetry. His works explore themes of personal narrative and artistic expression through short stories and poetry published in The Larcom Review, The New Kent Quarterly, and Spoon River Quarterly.
Awards include the AWP Novel Award and grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board and New Hampshire State Council on the Arts. His academic contributions span teaching, creative writing, and mentorship through Montserrat’s programs.
