Charles Benaïm is an Associate Professor at the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and an Associate Physician in the Department of Rheumatology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), part of the Faculty of Biology and Medicine. His work bridges clinical practice and academic research in rehabilitation medicine and biostatistics.
His educational background includes a medical degree (1994), a Master's and PhD in biostatistics (University of Montpellier, 1993 and 2000), a Master's in biomechanics (Valenciennes, 1995), and a Habilitation to Direct Research (University of Nice, 2006). He studied clinical neuropsychology at Montpellier and physical medicine at Paris V.
Charles Benaïm's research centers on three complementary axes: scientific, methodological, and therapeutic. He investigates the impact of physical activity on sensorimotor and corticospinal plasticity, develops objective clinical scales to assess motor retraining, and studies quality of life, pain, depression, and cognition in neurological disability. He aims to create a regional expertise center for musculoskeletal pathologies, advance upper limb rehabilitation with EPFL, implement mirror therapy for amputees and stroke patients, and expand telemedicine in Lausanne.
His recent publications focus on clinical assessment in rehabilitation, biostatistical methods in neurology, and therapeutic innovations for motor and cognitive impairments. The articles reflect a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary methodologies and patient-centered outcomes in physical medicine.

He has held the Chair of Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Burgundy since 2009. His leadership experience includes directing rehabilitation departments in Nîmes, Nice, Dijon, and Tonnerre. He plans to establish a multidisciplinary clinical-surgical expertise center at CHUV, similar to his prior work in Dijon.
