Charlene Polio is a Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages at Michigan State University's College of Arts & Letters, specializing in Second Language Studies and TESOL.

Her research focuses on second language writing, research methodology, and discourse patterns in teacher education. Professor Polio has published extensively in top-tier journals including Studies in Second Language Acquisition, The Modern Language Journal, TESOL Quarterly, and the Journal of Second Language Writing. She co-authored two recent books: "Research Methods for L2 Writing" (with Debra Friedman) and "Using Authentic Materials" (with Eve Zyzik). With practical experience teaching ESL in the US and China, she maintains significant expertise in language assessment. As a leading scholar, she currently serves as co-editor of TESOL Quarterly and has previously contributed to editorial boards of major journals in the field.
