Melinda Reichelt is a Distinguished University Professor and Professor of English at the University of Toledo, where she directs the ESL writing program in the College of Arts and Letters. She teaches graduate courses in the MA-English program with a concentration in Writing Studies, linguistics, and ESL writing. She holds an M.A. (1991) and Ph.D. (1996) in English from Purdue University.
Her research specializes in second language writing pedagogy, with emphases on ESL instruction, foreign language writing, linguistic bias in academic contexts, and teacher education. She investigates cross-cultural writing practices, feedback mechanisms, and curriculum design for diverse language learners.
Recent publications explore linguistic equity, non-English L2 writing instruction, and pedagogical innovations. Her scholarship consistently addresses writing instruction challenges across global educational contexts, with notable work on Cuban English and Turkish writing pedagogy.
