Charity Chanza

Dr. Charity Chanza is a Senior Lecturer in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology and Head of the Extension Department at Bunda College, Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR). Her roles include leadership as Deputy Dean of Development Studies and Deputy Head of the Extension Department. She specializes in agricultural extension, rural development, land tenure, climate change adaptation, and gender and development. Dr. Chanza has contributed to UN FAO initiatives, including capacity assessments for agriculture innovation systems in Malawi, and developed guidelines for decentralized district agricultural extension systems.

Her research focuses on agricultural resilience, climate change adaptation, gender-responsive agriculture, and land tenure systems. She has authored/co-authored studies on climate smart agriculture, participatory action research in fish farming, and institutional challenges facing rural organizations. Her work emphasizes bridging policy and practice to enhance sustainable agricultural practices and rural livelihoods.

She is affiliated with the SIT Graduate Institute as faculty for the MA in Sustainable Development Practice program.
