Charis Tsikkou

Charis Tsikkou is an Associate Professor and Associate Director for Undergraduate Programs in the Department of Mathematics at West Virginia University, within the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on Applied Analysis, particularly in partial differential equations, nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws, and fluid dynamics.

Education:

• Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Mathematics, Brown University
• B.Sc. in Mathematics, University of Cyprus

Research Interests: Dr. Tsikkou specializes in partial differential equations of mixed type, kinetic theory, and nonlinear diffusive-dispersive equations. Her work often addresses challenges in fluid dynamics and geometric analysis.

Grants & Leadership:

• Principal Investigator on NSF grants for conferences and REU programs in applied mathematics.
• Co-Principal Investigator on grants for math outreach initiatives like the WVU Junior Math Club.

Outreach & Teaching:

• Organized the WVU Integration Bee and Junior Math Competition for high school and undergraduate students.
