Charis Dimaras serves as Professor of Piano and Collaborative Studies and Coordinator of the Keyboard Area at Ithaca College's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, where he has been a core faculty member since 1999. Renowned for his virtuosity and stage presence, he maintains an active international career spanning solo recitals, chamber collaborations, orchestral performances, and conducting.
His educational background includes:
- Doctorate in Piano Performance from Manhattan School of Music (studied with Solomon Mikowsky)
- Master's in Piano Performance from Juilliard School (Alexandros S. Onasis scholarship; studied with Gyorgy Sandor)
- DipRCM from Royal College of Music, London (studied with Alan Rowlands)
- Soloist Diploma from Greek Ministry of Culture (studied with Yannis Jonker)
- Second Master's in Orchestral Conducting from Bard College (studied with Harold Farberman)
Dimaras's artistic focus centers on piano performance techniques across historical periods, collaborative practices for vocal/instrumental repertoire, and the evolution of musical forms like the sonata-allegro. He has organized major composer festivals at Ithaca College for Busoni, Granados, Beethoven, and Wagner, demonstrating deep engagement with both classical traditions and contemporary works.

He cultivates long-term artistic partnerships such as the Emerald Duo with cellist Roman Mekinulov and collaborations with Metropolitan Opera artists like Marlis Petersen and Todd Thomas.
Dimaras co-founded the award-winning Emerald Duo and frequently leads festival ensembles, serving as Music Director for College Audition Advantage's Summer Vocal Institute since 2015. His work bridges performance, education, and artistic curation across international platforms.
