Chara Lewis

Chara Lewis is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University. She collaborates extensively with Dr. Kristin Mojsiewicz (ECA) and Dr. Anneke Pettican (University of Huddersfield) as Brass Art, focusing on interdisciplinary installations and digital art.

Research Interests: Chara engages in collaborative art practices exploring themes of memory, symbolism, and technology. Her work integrates digital tools, historical references (e.g., John Dee's 'manicules'), and cultural narratives, often involving 3D modeling, bodyscanning, and interactive installations.

Recent Projects: Highlights include the 2024 exhibition Rock, Quiver and Bend at HOME Manchester and Ventriloquism: The Lost Voice Spoken by Others at The Whitaker Museum, Rossendale. Earlier works like Gestured (2017) and Still Life no.1 (2011) examine shadow technology and symbolic hands in museum contexts.

Funding: Supported by Arts Council England, Association of Art Historians (AAH), and institutions like MIRIAD, ECA, and University of Huddersfield for R&D projects, including Still Life no.1 for Dark Matters and digitization of museum objects.
