Chaowen Ting is an Associate Professor of Music and Director of Orchestral Studies at Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Music (College of Design). She holds a DMA from the Eastman School of Music and is an alumna of The Dallas Opera Hart Institute for Women Conductors. Her research and creative practice focus on conducting, opera, new music, and advocating for equity in the music industry. Notable achievements include the Bruno Walter Memorial Fellowship and Second Prize at the 2024 Felix Mendelssohn Conducting Competition.
Her 2023-24 season highlights include conducting the world premiere of Forsyth County is Flooding (Atlanta Opera) and serving as assistant conductor for Verdi’s Requiem with Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie. She has led ensembles like the BBC Concert Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic, and Cincinnati Sinfonietta. Ting is recognized for innovative programming, community-building, and empathetic leadership.
Awards include the Mendelssohn Competition prize and the Bruno Fellowship. She advocates for diverse representation in classical music through initiatives like Girls Who Conduct and The ADORE Project. Her work bridges traditional orchestral performance with contemporary social equity goals.
