Dr. Chaoshu Zeng serves as an Associate Professor at the School of Marine and Tropical Biology, James Cook University, where he has been a faculty member since 2000. He holds additional visiting professorships at Xiamen University (China) and an adjunct professorship at Shanghai Ocean University (China). His research focuses on crustacean aquaculture, marine ornamental breeding, and larval physiology, with particular emphasis on optimizing culture techniques and understanding ecological impacts.
Education:
- BSc/MSc in Marine Biology from Xiamen University, China
- PhD in Marine Biology from University of Wales, Bangor, UK
Research Interests:
- Crustacean larval development and nutrition
- Marine ornamental fish breeding strategies
- Toxicology of effluent water on aquatic organisms
- Copepod biology and culture optimization
- Environmental stress physiology in crustaceans
His work has produced over 90 peer-reviewed publications, and he serves on editorial boards of multiple journals. He leads research teams at JCU specializing in tropical crustacean aquaculture and marine ornamental breeding. His recent studies emphasize optimizing larval feeding regimes, understanding moult cycle impacts on physiology, and improving survival rates through controlled environmental parameters.
Professional Contributions:
- Grant reviewer for international funding agencies
- Co-developer of novel aquaculture feeds and breeding techniques
- Expert in crustacean endocrinology and reproductive physiology
Current projects include studying filial cannibalism in coral reef fish, salinity effects on decorator crab larvae, and the role of insulin-like hormones in crustacean sexual differentiation.
