Chantel Carr

Dr. Chantel Carr is an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellow in the School of Geography and Sustainable Communities at the University of Wollongong. She holds a PhD in Human Geography and has worked across urban planning, architecture, and technical fields before transitioning to academia. Her research focuses on the social and labor dimensions of energy transitions, particularly in carbon-intensive sectors like coal and steel. She leads ARC-funded projects examining metallurgical coal workers' experiences and Port Kembla's low-carbon transformation.

Dr. Carr's interdisciplinary approach bridges social science, policy, and technical fields. Her work includes studies on energy efficiency in HVAC systems, industrial repair practices, and household sustainability. She collaborates with governments and industry stakeholders on projects like the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund and offshore wind sector analysis.

Her research interests span regional transformation, labor politics, and skills development in climate transitions. She supervises PhD/Master's students on topics like offshore wind legal geographies and industrial landscape narratives. Awards include the ARC DECRA Fellowship, and she contributes to initiatives like the Offshore Renewable Energy Knowledge Mobilisation Project.
