Chantal Vis is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biology at Carleton University, part of the Faculty of Science. She holds a B.Sc. from Dalhousie University and both an M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Université de Montréal. Her primary affiliation is with Parks Canada, where she serves as a marine/aquatic ecosystem specialist in the Marine Conservation Division. Her research focuses on understanding how aquatic primary producers respond to natural and human-driven changes, with a particular emphasis on biogeochemical processes in large river systems, nutrient impacts on plant communities, and cyanobacteria proliferation. She also develops models to guide wetland restoration in the Great Lakes region.
Her work spans diverse topics including dissolved oxygen dynamics in agricultural streams, hydrological controls on algal growth, and policy evaluations for marine protected areas. Recent publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to conservation challenges. Chantal’s contributions bridge scientific research and practical management strategies within Canada’s national parks and marine conservation areas.
