معرفی
Dr. Robert Letcher is an Adjunct Research Professor at Carleton University’s Department of Biology and a Senior Research Scientist at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). He leads the Organic Contaminants Research Laboratory within the Ecotoxicology and Wildlife Health Division of the National Wildlife Research Centre. His work spans environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology, and contaminant fate in wildlife ecosystems, with over 420 peer-reviewed papers and significant contributions to Canadian and international environmental policies.
- Degree: B.Sc. (Honours) in Chemistry from University of Toronto, M.Sc. in Inorganic/Organic Chemistry from Carleton University, Ph.D. in Ecotoxicology/Ecological-Environmental Chemistry from Carleton University
Dr. Letcher’s research focuses on the analytical method development for environmental contaminants, biotransformation processes, and climate change impacts on chemical exposure in wildlife. His laboratory explores novel contaminants, biomarker assays, and ecological effects of chemical mixtures, particularly in Arctic and Great Lakes ecosystems.
His recent publications highlight advancements in understanding flame retardants, perfluoroalkyl acids, and mercury contamination in birds and mammals. His work has informed the Canadian Chemicals Management Plan and international agreements like the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
- Scientific Awards:
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (2019)
Dr. Letcher supervises graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, collaborating extensively with academic and government institutions. His laboratory integrates analytical chemistry, toxicology, and ecological modeling to address environmental health challenges.
