Chantal Faust is a Professor of Contemporary Art and Dean of the School of Arts & Humanities at the Royal College of Art (RCA). She previously served as Head of Contemporary Art Practice (2020–24) and Liaison Senior Tutor for Critical & Historical Studies (2016–20). Her practice merges art, philosophy, and technology, focusing on scanning as a creative medium and its implications for haptic aesthetics and digital culture.
Research Interests:
- Scanner-based imaging and its philosophical implications
- Role of absurdity in contemporary art and pedagogy
- Haptic vision and tactile perception in digital art
- Artistic research methodologies and PhD development
Awards: Finalist in the 2016 Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award. Her work has been exhibited globally, including at the National Gallery of Australia and the Freud Museum.
Advising & Grants: Supervises current research students in contemporary art practices and pedagogy. Collaborates with institutions like the Korea National University of Arts and the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design.
