Emma Wakelin serves as the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research & Innovation at the Royal College of Art (RCA), where she leads the College's strategy for research, knowledge exchange, innovation (including student enterprise), and executive education. She oversees the strategic development of postgraduate research and manages the College's four interdisciplinary, industry-facing research centres.
Her leadership encompasses:
- The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design
- The Intelligent Mobility Design Centre
- The Materials Science Research Centre
- The Computer Science Research Centre
- Innovation RCA, the College's award-winning graduate incubator
Before joining the RCA in 2015, Wakelin was an Associate Director of Programmes at the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UKRI). She maintains active involvement with UKRI as a regular member of funding panels and advisory groups.
Wakelin also contributes significantly to higher education governance through her position as Deputy Chair of the Board of Governors at Bath Spa University and as a member of the Advisory Council of the Warburg Institute.
