Felicity Aylieff is a Professor of Ceramics at the Royal College of Art (RCA), School of Arts & Humanities. She holds a first-class Honours degree in ceramics and textiles from Bath Academy of Art and an MPhil from RCA researching glass/ceramic inclusions. Her career spans over 40 years, blending studio practice with academic leadership.
Education includes Bath Academy of Art (1972–8), Goldsmiths College (1978–9), and RCA’s MPhil (1993–6). She taught at Bath Spa University (1989–2001) and has been at RCA since 2001 as Senior Tutor, organizing the Ceramics & Glass programme. External roles include examiner roles at Wolverhampton, Cardiff, and Dublin institutions.
Research focuses on large-scale ceramics, cross-cultural techniques, and material experimentation. Notable projects include collaborations with Jingdezhen manufactories in China and residencies at Royal Delft in the Netherlands. Major exhibitions include 'Porcelain City Jingdezhen' (V&A, 2011), Qatar’s Tornado Tower installation (2013), and BBC4’s 'Treasures of Chinese Porcelain' documentary.
Awards include two Art Council Awards (2002, 2008) and RCA Fellowship (2008). Her works are in collections like the V&A and Victoria Art Gallery. Advising includes Ceramic Art London’s education programs and Cleere Conservation.
