Chandra S. Bhati

Dr. Chandra S. Bhati is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and serves as the Chief of the Division of Transplant Surgery and Abdominal Transplant Director for the Program in Transplantation. He is also the Surgical Director of Liver Transplantation at the University of Maryland Medical Center. His expertise spans multi-organ transplant surgery, with a focus on robotic approaches for liver/kidney transplants and liver cancer-related surgeries.

• Education: MBBS from Dr S.N. Medical College (2000); residency and fellowship training at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (2011-2014).
• Clinical Focus: Liver/kidney transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, transplant oncology for colorectal metastasis, neuroendocrine tumors, and cholangiocarcinoma.
• Research: Improving transplantation access for obese patients, pre/post-liver transplant sarcopenia, NASH HCC, and normothermic perfusion.
• Leadership: Program Director for ASTS-accredited transplant surgery fellowship; teaches faculty in the ASTS minimally invasive donor course.
