Chandra Reynolds is a Professor of Behavioral, Psychiatric, and Statistical Genetics at the University of Colorado, affiliated with the Institute for Behavioral Genetics and the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. She holds clinical faculty status in clinical psychology and neuroscience. Her research focuses on lifespan development, cognitive aging, and Alzheimer’s disease, leveraging longitudinal studies of twins and adoptees to understand gene-environment interactions.
Dr. Reynolds earned her PhD in 1994 from the University of Southern California. Her work spans behavioral genetics, epigenetics, and epidemiology, with a focus on resilience against cognitive decline and biomarker analysis. Major projects include the Vietnam Era Twin Study of Aging (VETSA) and the Colorado Adoption/Twin Study of Lifespan Development (CATSLife).
Her research highlights the influence of socioeconomic status, lifestyle factors (e.g., alcohol use, smoking), and biological markers like neurofilament light chain on aging outcomes. She collaborates globally through consortia such as IGEMS to explore genetic and environmental determinants of health across populations.
Key themes in her publications include: (1) epigenetic mechanisms of frailty, (2) genetic architectures of cognitive reserve, and (3) bidirectional relationships between mental health and cardiometabolic health. Her work bridges molecular genetics with public health implications for aging populations.
