Chan Kiat Lim serves as Faculty and Music Arts Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, holding the Margaret Chauvin Steen Villemez Professorship in Music. An internationally active recitalist, he has performed solo and chamber works across Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania, Malaysia, and the United States, including notable appearances at Steinway Hall (New York City) and collaborations with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Symphony Orchestra.
Lim's educational background includes Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music under Eugene and Elizabeth Pridonoff, with additional mentorship from Dorothy Delay and James Tocco. His foundational training comprised music certifications from London's Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College of Music.
His research centers on Twentieth-century American music and innovative piano pedagogy, exemplified by the critically acclaimed CD "An American Kaleidoscope" featuring world-premiere recordings of William Bolcom and Ned Rorem compositions, and the co-creation of the "eNovativePiano" multimedia curriculum for distance music education. These works integrate his expertise from ABRSM traditions and American conservatory training.
Lim's scholarly impact is recognized through awards including the Louisiana Music Teachers Association Outstanding Teacher Award (2015), University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Distinguished Professor Award (2015), and the Louisiana Division of the Arts Grant (2011) supporting his collaborative recording project.
As an educator, he teaches piano performance, literature, and class piano while mentoring students who have won top prizes at international competitions. His grant-funded initiatives demonstrate sustained commitment to advancing musical scholarship through performance and pedagogical innovation.
