Chad L. Myers is a Professor and Distinguished McKnight University Professor at the University of Minnesota's College of Science and Engineering, Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He serves as Associate Department Head and Co-Director of Graduate Studies for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. His research bridges computer science, genetics, and molecular biology with a focus on developing computational approaches to understand biological systems.
Myers' research focuses on machine learning approaches for integrating diverse genomic data to make inferences about biological networks. His work centers on understanding gene function and how genes or proteins interact to carry out cellular processes. He specializes in developing computational methods for mapping genetic interactions in human cells, analyzing morphogenesis and virulence in fungal pathogens, and creating pathway-based tools for detecting genetic interactions from genome-wide association studies. His research has significant implications for understanding cancer risk, infectious diseases, and fundamental biological processes.
His research group, the Myers Lab, has produced 169 research outputs and secured 22 major projects and grants, including NIH-funded research on genetic interaction networks and fungal pathogen analysis. The lab has developed innovative computational platforms for CRISPR-Cas9 chemical-genetic screens and created tools like BridGE for genetic interaction analysis.

Professor Myers has advised 12 PhD students to completion, including Mahfuzur Rahman (2021), Justin Nelson (2019), and Scott Simpkins (2018). His research has been supported by multiple NIH grants, including 'Mapping dynamic functional networks across environments and genetic backgrounds' (2022-2026), 'Systematic Analysis of Morphogenesis, Commensalism, and Virulence in a Leading Human Fungal Pathogen' (2022-2025), and 'Computational Methods for Mapping Genetic Interactions in Human Cells' (2020-2025).
The Myers Lab maintains active collaborations with researchers at the University of Toronto and other institutions, focusing on genetic interaction networks across different organisms including yeast, Candida albicans, and human cells. The lab has developed several computational tools and approaches that have been widely adopted in the genomics research community.
