Dr. Huyen Phan Phan is a Senior Research Fellow at Curtin University's School of Molecular and Life Sciences, affiliated with the Centre for Crop Disease Management (CCDM). Her research focuses on fungal genomics, plant pathology, and agricultural disease management, particularly concerning wheat pathogens like Parastagonospora nodorum. She specializes in genomic diversity analysis, effector gene regulation, and resistance breeding strategies against necrotrophic pathogens. Her work integrates genome-wide association studies (GWAS), transcriptomics, and molecular genetics to address crop disease challenges under changing environmental conditions.
Research interests include fungal pathogen evolution, necrotrophic effector mechanisms, and host-pathogen interactions. Key contributions involve identifying novel resistance sources in wheat germplasm, mapping disease susceptibility loci, and elucidating transcriptional networks governing pathogen virulence. Dr. Phan collaborates widely, contributing to international initiatives on crop disease management and pre-breeding programs for durable disease resistance.
Her recent studies highlight genomic diversity dynamics in fungal pathogens, functional roles of transcription factors in effector regulation, and the application of genomic tools to accelerate crop improvement. Ongoing work addresses the impact of climate change on disease dynamics and the development of sustainable disease management strategies.
