Ceyda Steele is a Lecturer and Turkish Language Program Coordinator at The Ohio State University. She holds a PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures from UCLA (2021) with a Gender Studies concentration, an MA in Interdisciplinary Women’s Studies from Fordham University, and a M.Ed. in Turkish Language and Literature Teaching from Marmara University.
Her research focuses on the education activities of early women organizations in the Ottoman Empire (late 19th/early 20th centuries), Ottoman women's literary works, and girls' education in the Ottoman context. She has seven years of teaching experience in Turkish language courses at UCLA, covering Elementary to Advanced levels, Ottoman Turkish, and Turkish literature.
Teaching specialties include Turkish Language (all levels), Ottoman Turkish, Turkish Literature, and Women in the Middle East. Her expertise areas span Ottoman women's magazines, Muslim/Christian-Ottoman women's writings, and female-led NGOs in modern Turkey.
