Professor Faysal Okan ATASOY is a distinguished academic in the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education at Suleyman Demirel University's Faculty of Education. Currently serving as Professor since 2023, he also holds dual administrative roles as Department Head and Department Chair at the same institution since 2020. His academic journey includes previous positions as Associate Professor at Suleyman Demirel University (2020-2023) and Erzincan Binali Yildirim University (2017-2020), and Assistant Professor at Erzincan University (2010-2017).
His educational background includes a Licence in Turkish Language and Literature Teaching from Marmara University (1996), an MA in Turkish Language (2001), and dual Doctorates in Turkish Education (2012) and Turkish Teaching (2009), all from Marmara University.
Professor ATASOY's research focuses on Old Anatolian Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Etymology, Semantics, Lexicology, Writing, Spelling, and Punctuation. His scholarly work examines historical linguistic developments, orthographic standards, and the evolution of Turkish language practices. He has made significant contributions to understanding punctuation rules in Turkish, including analysis of the Turkish National Anthem's punctuation and historical punctuation practices.
His publication record shows consistent scholarly output with recent works focusing on foreign word spelling in Turkish (2023), Crimean Tatar documents (2022), and proverb analysis from literary works (2021). His research demonstrates a strong connection between historical linguistic analysis and contemporary language standardization efforts, with particular attention to practical applications in education and official documentation.
Professor ATASOY has supervised numerous Master's theses on Turkish language topics, including Ottoman Turkish texts, dictionary compilation, and linguistic analysis. His editorial work includes serving as editor for 'Education, Social, Health and Political Developments in Turkey between 2000-2020' since 2021 and as guest editor for 'RumeliDE Dil ve Edebiyat Dergisi' since 2014.
He has taught a wide range of courses including Ottoman Turkish (multiple levels), Turkish Grammar (multiple levels), Linguistics, History of Turkish Education, and Teaching Practice. His professional membership includes the Turkish Language Association (2015-2018), reflecting his commitment to Turkish language scholarship and standardization.
