Cesare Vagge is a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's Department of History, focusing on the intersection of economic and political institutions in 20th-century Europe. His current research examines the evolution of technocratic and corporatist frameworks guiding industrial policy in France and Italy (1937–1958), particularly their steel industries, within the broader context of 'Organised Capitalism.' This study challenges the notion of post-war Europe as a tabula rasa by analyzing continuities from authoritarian legacies into democratic state-led economies.
Specializing in Modern European Economic & Social History and Political History, his work bridges fascist-era institutions (e.g., under Mussolini and Vichy) with post-war mixed economic systems. Key themes include state intervention in industry, transnational comparisons of political economy, and the socio-political aftermath of crises like the Great Depression and WWII.
