Celia Miralles Buil is a Lecturer in the history of health and the environment at the Université de Strasbourg, affiliated with the SAGE laboratory (UMR 7363) within the Faculty of Medicine. She is a member of the Department of History of Life and Health Sciences (DHVS), where she conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of medicine, urban development, and environmental risk.
Her research focuses on the social history of health in the 19th and 20th centuries, with a particular emphasis on urban environments in Iberian cities such as Lisbon and Barcelona. Key themes include infectious diseases, tuberculosis, sanitary borders, quarantine policies, and the role of architecture in public health. She explores how cities managed health and technological risks, especially in the context of migration, port activity, and environmental pollution.
The trends in her publications reveal a strong focus on historical public health policy, the evolution of sanitary control mechanisms, and the transformation of urban spaces into health infrastructures. Her work often draws on comparative urban studies and integrates science and technology studies (STS) perspectives, particularly in analyzing technoscientific imaginaries and material approaches to containment.
