Dr hab. Iwona Janicka, Professor at the University of Gdańsk, specializes in the social history of medicine, focusing on epidemic diseases (particularly cholera), medical education for women, folk medicine, and sanitary culture in towns and villages during the modern period and 19th century across Poland, the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and the Russian Empire. She works within the Faculty of History, Institute of History, and Division of Modern History.
Her research explores intersections of public health, medical institutions, and societal responses to epidemics. Her publications examine cholera outbreaks, quarantine systems, burial practices, and gender disparities in 19th-century medical professions.
