Celia Lury is a Professor and founding Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies (CIM) at the University of Warwick. Previously, she held leadership roles at Goldsmiths, University of London, and Lancaster University. She earned a DPhil and MA in Sociology from the University of Manchester and a BA (Hons) in Sociology from the University of York.
Research Interests: Lury’s work focuses on interdisciplinary methodologies, cultural change, and processes of personalization. Key themes include the role of methods in social research, topological culture, branding, and the sociology of consumer culture. Her recent projects explore the intersections of data-driven practices and societal transformation through initiatives like the Wellcome Trust-funded 'People Like You' project.
Publications: Lury has authored and edited influential books, including Brands: The Logos of the Global Economy, Inventive Methods, and Routledge Handbook of Interdisciplinary Research Methods. Her work bridges sociology, cultural studies, and media theory, emphasizing the methodological innovation required to understand contemporary cultural dynamics.
Grants & Collaborations: She leads interdisciplinary projects funded by major institutions, including the Wellcome Trust. Her research engages with global challenges like algorithmic personalization and the sociopolitical implications of data-driven systems.
