Celeste Carruthers is the William F. Fox Distinguished Professor of Labor Economics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville's Haslam College of Business, with joint appointments in the Department of Economics and the Boyd Center for Business & Economic Research. Her research focuses on education policy, public economics, labor economics, and economic history. She teaches graduate/undergraduate courses in public expenditure analysis, causal inference, and econometrics.

Research interests include the impact of financial aid on college choices, career/technical education, and historical consequences of segregated schools. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of Economics of Education Review, is affiliated with CALDER, and advises Harvard's Strategic Data Project fellows.
Awards highlight her academic contributions, including the Georgescu-Roegen Prize (2020) and multiple teaching/service recognitions from Haslam College. She actively collaborates with research networks like the CTE Research Network and contributes to policy discussions via media engagements.
